River Bend Nature Center

Environmental Education & Outdoor Recreation

Nestled along the scenic Root River in Racine, River Bend Nature Center spans 78 acres of protected woodlands, ponds, prairies, and trails where nature comes alive. Since the 1950s, we’ve been connecting children, families, and adults with the wonders of the natural world through environmental education, outdoor recreation, and unforgettable experiences. Whether you’re hiking our boardwalk trails, paddling the river, attending a nature program, or simply seeking a peaceful escape into the beauty of southeastern Wisconsin, River Bend offers a place to explore, learn, and discover the magic that happens when people and nature come together.

Visit

Explore 78 acres of natural beauty along the Root River. Our grounds and trails are open daily from sunrise to sunset every day of the year. Our office is open weekdays from 8am to 4pm. During ski/snowshoe season and canoe/kayak season the buildings are open 9am to 5pm Saturdays and Sundays.

Learn

Expand your knowledge and outdoor skills through our specialized programs and classes for children, families, and adults. Learn archery, wood carving, fly fihsing/fly tying, orienteering, cross-country skiing, and canoe paddling, or join age-specific programs like Tiny Tots for ages 2-4.

Get Involved

Volunteers come to River Bend Nature Center with a variety of ages, interests, skills, and desires. Whether you have a few hours a week, extra time on weekends, or wish to help occasionally throughout the year, we welcome the chance to work with a broad base of people dedicated to helping us pursue our mission.
