Nestled along the scenic Root River in Racine, River Bend Nature Center spans 78 acres of protected woodlands, ponds, prairies, and trails where nature comes alive. Since the 1950s, we’ve been connecting children, families, and adults with the wonders of the natural world through environmental education, outdoor recreation, and unforgettable experiences. Whether you’re hiking our boardwalk trails, paddling the river, attending a nature program, or simply seeking a peaceful escape into the beauty of southeastern Wisconsin, River Bend offers a place to explore, learn, and discover the magic that happens when people and nature come together.

Programs

Discover hands-on environmental education designed to connect people of all ages with the natural world. Classes

Expand your knowledge and outdoor skills through our specialized classes for children, families, and adults. Learn archery, orienteering, cross-country skiing, and canoe paddling, or join age-specific programs like Little Sprouts for ages birth-5 and Nature Tots for ages 2-6. Our expert instructors create engaging, educational experiences that build confidence and connection to the outdoors. Members receive discounts on all classes.

Rentals

Host your next meeting, celebration, or special event in our beautiful riverside setting. Choose from the Main Lodge (seating up to 90), the intimate Em’s Cabin with gas fireplace, or the outdoor Sam & Gene Johnson Pavilion with fire pit. Our 78-acre preserve provides a stunning natural backdrop for weddings, corporate gatherings, and private events. Looking for outdoor adventure? We also offer canoe, kayak, cross-country ski, kicksled, and snowshoe rentals to help you explore the Root River and our scenic trails.
